Puppy can't wee

Hi,

We got our Doberman puppy yesterday morning, 6 and a half weeks old. She has been a delight. Settled in well and very playful and friendly.

This afternoon however she has been constantly crouching and trying to wee but rarely managing to squeeze out more than a drop if anything at all.

Does she have a bladder infection?

What should we do given that the vet is closed until Tuesday?

Any input appreciated.

Yes,she is too young but you have her now.
She does need a vet before tuesday i'm afraid.

Sounds like a bladder infection and by tuesday she will be very uncomfortable.

Good luck

Yes she is to young to be away from her mum..but that will not be the cause for he not being able too wee..so has nothing to do with the question asked.

Vets is a must when its something to do with a pupster this young..asap.

Re: Puppy can't wee

Agree - she needs to see a vet asap - imagine what you would feel like if you were unable to wee until Tuesday, let alone how ill you would feel with an infection untreated until then!

Re: Puppy can't wee

I posted as I wondered if it was something which might sort itself out, ever the optimist.
Anyway shortly after posting we decided the only fair thing to do was get a pro opinion so took a 30 mile round trip to the emergency vet.

They tested her wee and she has cystitis, so she has had a jab of antibiotics and we have a few days more tablets for her. Her temp was normal so she should be perking up pretty soon.

Thanks to anyone who was concerned.

As for her age we got our prior Doberman at five months old, she had been born on a farm, and although she was a brilliant dog as far as the family were concerned there was always an underlying sociability issue.
We had decided that 7 weeks would be the best age to get her so we could get her well socialised and trained so we were a little bit earlier than planned.
Our vet was happy with this and our puppy wasn't the first one to go, but I guess all that is for another thread. We haven't entered this lightly in case anyone has that concern, we have a raft of books and gear and the dog's best intentions at heart.
