Re: Neutering!!!

Still not sure if i'm any wiser lol. So many different views. Originally i was adament i'd get bailey done now the decision is getting harder and harder. In one way i'm glad because i'd been advised to get it done sooner rather than later but read a few threads that said later is better

Re: Neutering!!!

neutering your dog at a young age will calm him down, but at the same time it will prevent him from wondering to mate with females in season. further preventing him from getting lost or stolen if he gets out. neutering your dog has alot of benefits, can prevent growths and cancer in the genital region as well as the above few things.

Re: Neutering!!!

i was told to get mine neutered even though we weren't going to orridunaly,,,reason was that he kept marking his territory and humping strangers legs,,,eeuurrgghh!!! lol:P but hes fine now and despite only being 2 year old he has calmed down alot and is alot better behaved.,,,

Re: Neutering!!!

most male puppies hump everything in sight, its a natural thing to do and is also done when being dominant. when you neuter the dogs they calm down quite considerable because they dont have the tostesterone running through their little bodies.

Smile Re: Neutering!!!

if your dog does hump there are lots of preventative measure you can put into place. never give your dog a cuddly toy the same size or bigger than him as he will use it and you wont then get it back from him! if your dog tries to hump you, a friend or anybody else then you should make a loud noise, either by clapping your hands together or blowing a whistle and tell him no. this is very effective!

If you aren't sure, there's no harm in thinking it over for a long while. After all once they're off, there's no going back! Im of the opinion of not neutering but if you really have to, at least wait until the hormones have settled between 1yr-18months. He will be a lot more mature and his body will be formed properly.

Behaviours such as humping, that have been learned will not be cured by lopping bits off a dog.
