Re: Dave is at the vets...

Bless him. I always want to ram food into them after an op to get their strength back up (and stop those begging eyes!) and it takes all my power not to give in and do it.

Did they give you a post-op pack with special food and rehydration crystals?

Re: Dave is at the vets...

He's been good, he doesn't jump onto the couch, he climbs on carefully so that's not a problem.

So far he has only licked once or twice so I think he will be ok.

Nope the vet doesn't give anything to take home but then he was operated on at about 11 and I collected him at half 3. They don't let pets go home after operation until they are recovered from the anasthetic properly.

Re: Dave is at the vets...

Oh I felt SO mean keeping him on the lead for the entire walk this evening having to watch Dixie and Bullseye running about

So I gave him his rawhide rugby ball, Dixie is in her bed, Dave is rolling about on the floor chewing his ball upside down

He ate half his normal dinner (plus the 1.3 I had to give him earlier) has drank some water, and been to the loo (both) so we know that's all fine- I would know there was something seriously wrong if he passed on dinner!!

He has since had one or two attempted licks 'down there' but I said ''ahh'' and he stopped. He is so good

I have to go into town tomorrow at 2pm, and wont be back until half 6. I can rely on next door to let them out but I'm thinking I should just take Dave with me in case he uses the opportunity to lick away??

Re: Dave is at the vets...

Well..... Dave was upset on the bus. Because I forgot to bring him a chew (My son was being a pain and I was in a rush).

Walking from the bus to my OH work, he peed.... only twice
And only a further once, going to the pet shop to get him a chew. He did have a sniff at a couple of things, but compared to 'before neutering', where he would stop and sniff and pee on every single lamp post/plant pot on the way.
He was SO much better!

He was feeling a bit sore last night and couldn't settle so I gave him an old teddy to cuddle and chew on, and he was fine
He has had a wee lick once or twice, but just in general, not really at the scar.

I put him on the extendy for his walk today round the block (out the exit of the village onto the ''main road'' and up along to the other exit for the village) to give him a bit more room to walk. Then had to go out again with Dixie as I couldn't have him on lead with her off again. Lol

I have to take him into the vets for a quick check on thurs to see how he is getting on. And to pay them the rest of the bill. Which only came to £74.93 (we paid £40 on mon).

Re: Dave is at the vets...

Bless him, my vet told us Bailey wouldn't sniff as much, but... he sniffs even more now, is that right? Lol.

But he never pees much on a walk anyway, only once or twice usually.

Glad he's ok though

I work in a vets and the dogs are not sent home with anything
When the dog has come round from his op which could be anything from secs to 10-15 mins he will then be keep warm in his kennel and only after 2 hours if he has come round 100% will he be offered food and water and around a hour later offered a short slow walk on the green on site once the dog has been through all this the dog is then checked by the vet and the vet gives the dog the all clear dogs go home the same day but bitches stay in over night
