Is this illness?

We took our 3 year old German Shepherd Cross out for a walk last night, the weather was quite warm but damp and he started drinking from puddles. He kept trying to drink from everyone he saw. When we got home, he drank two large bowls full of water pretty quickly. I went to bed but my partner told me that he had to stay up with the dog all night as he was whining to get out and even urinated a little in the hall- which he never does. He had to go out constantly and urinated for very long amounts of time. He even started peeing in the garden which, again, he never does, preferring to only go outside of the house/gardens. My partner says the dog's tummy was very upset and making gurgling noises all night and the dog lay in his lap for hours whining. He hasn't drank as much today but is trying to urinate a lot, only managing little drops.
Does this seem like an illness or is he just suffering for drinking too much cold water too quickly?

Re: Is this illness?

Id be concerned about his need to drink vast volumes of water in the first place.

Might be worth popping a urine sample into your vets and seeing what it shows up.

If he is trying to pee, but not really going, he could have an infection, which will require antibiotics.

Excess drinking can be a sign of ill health - if it continues you need to see a vet

Re: Is this illness?

Sounds like a urine infection to me and you should try and get him an appointment at the vets as soon as possible because he will need antibiotics if it is an infection.
Good luck and hope he's better soon.

Re: Is this illness?

I would take him to the vets for a proper diagnosis.
