Diabetes Insipidus

Has anybody had a pet who has suffered from this. Any info would be greatly appreciated . My Akita has been under the weather for a short time now i.e.

not so energetic
drinking massive amounts & peeing loads
just a bit miserable.

She went in for Bloods last week & my vet ruled out a few major problems such as Kidney Failure & cushing's syndrome. But was still concerned and thinks she may have Diabetes Insipidus . So my Akita is now going back next Thur for a water deprevation test to see whats what.

JimJamz-

My dog had diabetes - it started with similar symptoms. It was a bit difficult to get under control, but once her blood glucose was stable, it was fairly easy to keep her healthy and happy.

There's an in-depth article on the Pet Health Focus site about canine diabetes. Just go to the site and search for diabetes.

If you need other ideas or advice about it, please contact me.

Re: Diabetes Insipidus

My friends rott has DI - its obviously different to Diabetes Mellitus by a country mile - it is treatable - my friends boy has eye drops that help control the thirst and since he's been on them he has managed to put on some weight and it has curbed his thirst - he is only 2 and DI is usually seen in older dogs. Best of luck with your Akita - if you have any specific questions you'd like me to ask her then please feel free to PM me
