What's really in your dogs food???

Found a interesting link that explains what the ingredients listed on dog foods actually are and gives them a rating out of 5. It seems to be a pretty good guide as far as I can tell;

Re: What's really in your dogs food???

Interesting guide, Alan. It's gonna take some time to read and digest () it. One thing I picked up from it already is how bad beet pulp is - Gabby is allergic to beet pulp (it makes her eyes red and sore) and trying to find a food that doesn't use it as a bulking agent is very difficult.

Re: What's really in your dogs food???

Well, after speaking to just about every pet food manufacturer at Crufts a couple of years back - most of whom tried to tell me I was wrong about beet pulp (I wonder why!!) we found one in our local pet shop called Goodfeast, which seems to do the trick -and it seems to be keeping them healthy. Only trouble is, now I've read the list on your link, I'm a bit worried that it doesn't list what meat is in it - it just says meat of animal extract.

Never heard of Goodfeast before.

Beet Pulp is a controversial ingredient as it is known to cause allergies and is really just a by-product of suger extraction.

Re: What's really in your dogs food???

mine love it, I am now mixing it with Angels dry food and she seems to be eating it all, although if I dont mix it properly she will eat the tripe and leave the dryD if you do get tripe I wouldnt advise buying the one in the small blocks as it has a lot of water in it once deftosted, I buy it minced and ready frozen in a bag it has much less water in it smelly stuff though lol
