Why would changing from a dry food help,I've not heard that before. My bridge baby had colitis all her life the only food she could tolerate was either Burn or Robbies. I gave her the venison one to start with as most dogs won't have had venison so they haven't the problems with it that other meats can cause.

There dont seem to be any other symptoms he is acting normal and is as happy as ever! i took him to the vet last time as he was overly straining when pooping and there was a little blood in it.

I would try the yoghurt, I can't see that it would do much harm and could do a lot of good.
I don't know how much to give though

about a month ago there was blood in the poo so i took him to the vets and she said it "looks" like a small case of Colitus? so she gave me this paste and several cans of "HILLS" pet food for three days and his poos were solid but a odd yellow colour, then after he went back to normal food he was okay for about 2 weeks then it all happend again, but there has been no more blood in the poo.
hes fed on a mixture of Nature Diet wet food and James well beloved dry food!
Please help!
Its really a strange problem.. never heard bout this before.

Re: Jack Has runny poos! Help!

My rescued collie cross had mild to moderate persistent colitis when I first got her at 18 months and I tracked it down to intolerance to wheat, soya and maize - all of which are common ingredients in dog food. It was a matter of experimenting with different foods until I found one that suited her. I used Burns for a while, then found she did better on Skinners hypoallergenic. Another dog I know gets colitis from poultry. The trigger can be anything. Mine has improved with age, she can now eat small amounts of wheat (like snatching a dropped bit of bread off the street) without any noticeable reaction. The yogurt (use goats milk yogurt not cows) could help, and you might also try digestive enzymes before meals. The help the digestive process, breaking the food down better so it doesn't irritate the colon. Some dogs (and people) don't naturally produce the enzymes for themselves. They can't do any harm, as the enzymes should be there anyway. You can get them from health food shops - Quest and Solgar make good ones.
