Unhappy Driving me mad!!!

Ok, I did a thread on here some time back, about our dog, Razor's eating habits and scabbing!
It has got worse! He still has 3 meals a day, changed his food to Eukunuba, as this is what we were recommended by our vet (contacted our vet regards the eating, took him in, wormed him again, to be sure, and checked him over, everything fine) costing us a fortune at the moment, but the vet said once his eating habit has calmed down, we can then try something else!
Everyday, throughout the day, 24/7 (well except for bedtimes) his head is constantly on the floor, he's walking around, and sniffing for food, he's going in the garden, and eating 'big' clumps of grass by the mouthful (he is now watched outdoors) pinching food off other people (well trying)
I gave him the benefit of the doubt the other day (as we have been putting him in the conservatory out the way whilst we eat coz of his food pinching habit) and let him stay in the kitchen/living room area whilst the kids were eating there dinner at the table, turn my back for 1 minute and Razor is there, up at the table licking my son's plate

I have no idea what else we can do, he has always been greedy, right from being a pup, but is there any training we can take on board to try and stop this behaviour.
I know most dogs do it, but Razor is just going ott at the moment.
Thanks.

Re: Driving me mad!!!

he thinks he is top dog for certain!!! no dog with respect for hisowner would jump onto the table... also are you absolutley sure he is not being fed tit bits by the kids???? now.. for his fussy eating.... my two lhasa apso's are like this.. they will go two days without even sniffing their food yet sit under our feet at the table at meal tiimes and scrounge the floor... its fussiness nothing else.. your dog deffo sounds like he is getting something better else where... its hard for me to say though as i dont know what his routines are and who he has contact with.
as for the table jumping... he must be seperated at your meal times.. ands if poss try and eat BEFORE he does. this is not always possible. also when feeding him his food make him sit and wait first.
your pooch needs to be told he aint in charge..
good luck

Re: Driving me mad!!!

Has your vet taken a blood sample?
Is he drinking a lot as well?
Could it be diabetes?

Thanks both for your replies.
Meisha, Razor is fed after we've eaten, always has been.
Rona, no this hasn't been ruled out, he hasn't had blood tests done, and yes he does drink a fair amount, but I always put that down to the weather, you may have just hit the nail on the head, will contact the vet again and go from there. Thanks.

Re: Driving me mad!!!

I hope I'm wrong and it is just behavioural, but I fear that there is more to it than that

Re: Driving me mad!!!

wow this sounds the same as zeb, could it really be that serious? he drinks loads and loads (some times we fill his large water bowl twice a day we just thought he was a big drinker!! and hes a scab he'll rummage the bin when we are out, he'll try and grab left overs from the kitchen side now hes tall enough to reach it.
We have trained him to drop if we see him and he does drop if 99% of the time even if we he his chewing it. so hes good that way

Think i may phone our vets

Re: Driving me mad!!!

Been reading firstly about Diabetes, and its very rare in dogs under 18 mths old, Razor is only 5 Mths 2 weeks old. Should I still look down this route?

If your dog has always done this and it hasn't got any worse, then I wouldn't worry unless there are other signs of something wrong.

I really don't know a lot about diabetes in dogs, just the symptoms you described set something off in my head.
Isn't there a form that affects puppies?
Try putting a new thread up to see if anyone has experience
