Runny poo

Hi,

My puppy is 9 weeks old and she has been doing runny poo's since Tuesday. Im thinking it is the change of food (i stupidly left the food the breeder gave me in the taxi and I only had Puppy Bakers complete in the house!) But I just want to be sure! i have managed to get hold of another bag of food from the breeder which she was on, im wondering if anyone knows whether her Poo's will go back to normal if I put her back on that and swap the food over to Bakers properly?

Do you think runny poo needs a visit to the vet? Shes very lively and happy in herself, drinking normally and eating.

Thanks!

Re: Runny poo

Is most likely the big change in diet but keep eye out if does not get better or seems unwell then its vet time!

Re: Runny poo

In a puppy so young, id advise a vets visit, although its most likely the dietry change. However, small pups go downhill rapidly, and become dehydrated very quickly.

Personally, id steer well clear of Bakers. Its poor quality, full of chemicals and colourings, and pretty bad for your dog.

What was the breeder feeding? Do you have any cooked chicken at all?

Agreed, i tried lots of different types of food, the one the breeder advised had her really constipated , her poos were so hard she was really uncomfortable and that was some science food , i tried many different, some made her skin smell would you believe! In the end Bakers was the only one that my Bichon could stomach, she had the beef variety first but i changed it to the chicken as she was getting a little overwieght lol and all mine eat that , puppies eat it too, everyone healthy and lovely , i do also give my dogs extra vitamins anyways. Look on the back of most food, it all got crap in it lol.

Re: Runny poo

I'm another one that would steer well clear of Bakers it really is one of the worst foods on the market, there's very little meat in it, it's full of cereals which they don't name so it will be the cheapest ones on the market. Derivatives are the beaks, claws, skin, anything left over from what humans eat gets shoved into pet food, they also have e.e.c. permitted additives which will be b.h.a. and b.h.t. which some experts believe can cause cancer. bichonsrus the food your vet would have given you would be Hills, vets get a kick back from Hills for selling their food, it's also not a great food.
Chels like the others I would pop the pup to the vets just to rule out anything else, keep your wee one on the breeders food for a few weeks and then gradually change over to one of the better quality foods that are out there.

Some puppies are fed bakers and do well on it, but at the moment, its the long term effects poor food has on a puppy/adult dog. I fed my first pup bakers because at the time i knew no different so ime not getting at you, my others was fed a better quality food and grew as a puppy a lot slower as the protein level was lower, they were calmer because no artificial additives and colourings, poos were a lot smaller and harder as there was very little waste. If you imagine surviving on mcdonalds yourself it would not have immediate effects but long term would do no good a all.

Maybe that you are looking at the general commercial foods, if you look at the ingredients on the back of Burns, James wellbeloved, nature diet, Arden grange and a few more you will see a big difference in the quality of ingredients.
