Re: Ticks Help : )
We've had a horrid time of ticks this year. I'd suggest you google images of ticks to see what they look like, there are several different types. The deer tick is so small, they are very difficult to see. They are also the ones that can transmit lyme disease. My 3 yr old standard poodle is being treated for that now, and my daughter has had to have antibotics for lyme in the past. Topical treatments, such as Frontline and Advantage, kill the ticks after they have bitten and attached themselves. In theory, they kill the tick before they have been attached for 48 hours, the time frame it usually takes to transmit disease to the host. As the tick feeds, it "blows up", full of blood, it then drops off. If they happen to drop off in your house, and you don't see them, they can find a dark space and lay eggs. Eventually causing an infestation in your home. Not a good thought!
Clean up fallen leaves in the yard, and keep grass mowed. Check your dogs every day, especially ear flaps, "underarms", muzzel and lips. On humans, pay attention to hairlines, underarms and the groin area, although they can attach anywhere. I'm sure ticks are on the earth for a reason, I just haven't figured out why!
