Vet has changed the usual flea treatment?

I have always had Stronghold for Holly and asked vet for some more and sent Hubby to collect it tonight, but they said they have changed using Stronghold to Advocate. What does everyone think? I have read other threads about it but can't find them. Not sure if I should use it.

Advocate is a good treatment. :thumbsup1:

I can't remember exactly of the top of my head but I think it covers a different selection on pests that Stronghold.

Most vets provide the most suitable treatment for the area, i.e. what problems are known to be common locally.

I usually use Stronghold on my Bichon. I am due to buy some more soon so I will see what our vet's receptionist says when I phone.

I have heard advocate is very good though and would use it.

I believe Advocate is one of the few treatments for lung worm and a lot of vets are recommending it for this reason

My vet just gives frontline, never gave it a thought that it might not be a good one, but understand I wouldnt be happy if all of a sudden got something different

Ooh i didnt know that, i give millbemax for that.

Regarding the change, the vet probably decided upon this to protect from parasites prevelant in the area or at this time of year, they wouldnt change to anything inadequate so i wouldnt worry

Re: Vet has changed the usual flea treatment?

In my opinion Advocate is the best on the market, not only does it do a better job of killing fleas & their larvae than frontline, but it also kills & prevents....
hookworm
roundworm
heartworm
lungworm
ear mites
& both types of mange ( sarcoptic & demodex ).
I don't believe you can buy a better all rounder & most vets, if they haven't already will probably make the switch this year!
