Unhappy help please unbilical hernia help advise needed

Hi all , well i had a german shepherd puppy last thursday, she is 7 weeks old took her to vets today for her first vacines. i was told she has an unbilical hernia that is hereditry , and therefore he advised me to have her spayed at 6 months of age . i bought her from a very well known breeder and paid £700 for her on the understanding i was going to show and poss breed her . please anyone what would you do , keep her and ask for some money back as £700 is a lot for a dog that may not be shown (as vet said ) .

please any advise i would be truley thankfull im in a right mess here .

thank you

I only found out what these are recently but they can removed very easily apparently and are not a problem or a risk. From what I understood they're not hereditary though, I could be totally wrong though but that was my understanding of what I was told.

It will not stop you showing her and they are not all hereditary we had a post on here not so long ago about hernias it may well be worth ringing the breeder and informing her of what your vet has suggested but I for one wouldn't worry too much we have had them with hernias but that has been caused by mum being a little bit over zealous when breaking the cord!! It cant be that big if you havent noticed it before, just keep an eye on it but dont get her spade and you get on and show her!!!!

Your vet has put the wind up you for no real reason will see if I can find the previous post and put it to the top in the threads.

Umbilical Hernias are usually nothing to worry about.

Some say they are inhereited, others say not.
If it's only small some even disappear on their own, others may need a repair.

Why not ring the Breeder and say you are concerned as the vet has picked up an hernia and ask for advice.

She is only 7 weeks old,so it may very well disappear on it's own.

No decent Breeder will think that at all,if it was one of mine I would definatly want to know what was going on and maybe contact the vet and have a chat myself to find out what was happening and any advise given.

Breeders generally love their puppies as much as the new owners do and like to be kept informed of any possible problems.
