Buster the Beagle

My new Beagle (Buster) is 6 months old and i was wondering what other Beagle owners fed theirs on.

I would like to keep him on dry food.

Re: Buster the Beagle

Hi its not always about what other beagles eat but what generally is good food to feed, there are so many options when it comes to food some are better than others a good rule is to reseach and maybe ask for samples we did this on finding Pero food for Labs and be sure to gradually change the food if your thinking of doing this over a period of about 1 week . Dry food is the best but make sure it has all the nutrients he will need and never over feed as Beagles tend to be food orientated and will soon get porky if the food isnt measured out always go with the guidelines on the pack but only as a guide if you find he puts on weight reduce amount by a third , dail amounts will vary on amount of exercise he gets

Re: Buster the Beagle

We are getting a beagle in 3 weeks and plan on feeding her a raw food diet from the start, i.e raw meaty bones with muscle meat and offal.

Re: Buster the Beagle

The BARF diet is very good and as natural as you can get we do feed raw when possible ,but we need to get a seperate freezer to enable us to do it on a permanent basis . Do make sure any raw meet has been frozen first and defrosted to feed as this distroys bad bacteria same as cooking would , although cooking then distroys too many good enzymes .Also make sure you get a good suppliment to add to the food so that it is balanced with all the added calcium and vitamins that may be missed out .

Re: Buster the Beagle

Hi
Dry food is best, so long as it's a good quality complete food, you know they are getting the correct balance of vitamins and minerals. I feed Archie on Burns, it's naturally preserved and hypo-allergenic, they also have a great Helpline (FREE!), for any feeding problems or queries.
They have just started a tinned food too, which you can mix.

Re: Buster the Beagle

Both of mine do well on Burns. It keeps them nice and lean and in great condition:

They're actually on Burns Active as this has a bit of extra fat. Mine are always on the go so they need the extra energy.

We give them veggies with their food, and they get a variety of cooked meat and offal on a daily basis as training treats.

We've tried other things (including raw) but this seems to work best for ours.
