Re: Border Collie weak and unsteady?

She certainly seemed as if you would be good as new by the end of that weekend, but her speed of improvement then declined.

She has had good days and bad days since then, had a tremendous thirst and appetite due to the steroids, plus putting on far too much weight. I don't know if these were to blame, but her stomach was almost permanently upset - terrible smells.

We agreed with the vet at her last visit to very gradually reduce the dose of steroids starting at 8 per day, she is now down to 3 per day. She is still improving and is back to enjoying her life again. Her good days are better and her bad days not quite so noticeable as they were - she just gets a little unstable on her legs. At 3 per day the smells have gone and she is generally still progressing.

I don't think the vet was expecting her to still be alive, but she is very much so and now is back to pestering to play. To help her coordination, I bought her a mains powered automatic bubble generating machine -she loves to chase them and it has worked wonder on her mobility. I plugged that into a remote control socket to save the wconstant walking to turn it on and off. She quickly worked out that the remote makes the bubbles start. Now she brings the remote to me when she wants the bubbles on.

She is still not up to long walks, her abilities are not reliable enough yet, but at least she manages most thing under her own steam.
