Ticks in Thetford

We took Koda to Thetford forest today and before we left I picked 4 ticks off his fur I thought his coat might protect him but I've since read that they are tenacious little critters. Do you think it warrants closer inspection? There's a lot of fur to go through!

Re: Ticks in Thetford

I hate ticks. Hate them to the point of being obsessed with them. When tick season is upon us, my dogs have every inch of them searched. The most common place i find them is the groin, i think thats because both of mine will lie in the grass with their legs stretched about behind them.

I thought id found a tick on Oscars stifle once. I got my tick hook and tried for about 10 mins to get the blighter off. Turned out it was a little warty thing, i damaged it and he had to have it surgically removed. In my defense even my vet thought it was a tick at first.

I LOVE those tick hooks, and derive great pleasure in removing and squishing ticks.

Re: Ticks in Thetford

I know! Anyways what is the point of a tick?? To what purpose does it serve?
Seems to me, me n my trusty hook should go on a mission to rid the world of these horrid little beasties!

Advantix by Bayer is the best to use, it does stop them attaching. When using monthly, my dog gets none attached - been using it over 2 years now. Before finding out about Advantix, I used Frontline and had the little buggers all round her neck. I have also noticed I get fewer on myself (these are the deer ticks, the ones that carry lyme disease).
