Moulting Labrador
Hi I have a 18 month old LAB who is moulting a lot at the moment just wondering if it is normal for a LAB to lose a lot of hair from the sides of his body. His hair is thin at the sides of his body but elseware is thick and looking healthy just wandered if this is normal for this time of year. I have noticed a lot of hair around the house. Also you can see a difference in colour in his skin where is hair loss is.

Re: Moulting Labrador
I also recommend the furminator to anyone that will listen, Zach has a coat very like a labs (his Mum was a lab) and it is moulting everywhere all the time, the Furminator really helps pull out the dead undercoat - you'd be AMAZED how much is in there!

Re: Moulting Labrador
Furminators are great, I use it on my greyhounds, but it works WONDERS on a Lab too

Re: Moulting Labrador
Yes, it all sounds very normal - as long as the skin appears healthy and not sore. Labs that live indoors do seem to moult more, and can do all year round.
Between my two girls Indie has a much longer coat, and at this time of year she looses bag fulls of hair, you can almost pull it out in tufts from her back end. Tau has a much shorter coat, and doesn't lose anywhere near as much fur. I wouldn't use a furminator on a Lab, I know they are only meant to strip out the dead hair, but a Lab is double coated and a comb does the job enough for my liking. I do know people who use a furminator on their Labs and they swear by them, its one of those horses for courses things! I never bother washing mine either, unless they've rolled in something, as long as their coat and skin are healthy they get left alone. |
