Could be diet then pedigree is not a good food, lots of rubbish in it and additives, theres so many things added he is proberbly allergic to one or more if the chemicals or additives.

Re: Dog keeps nipping at his fur

These are the things i would do first.... (subject to him not being in pain, or causing serious damage to his skin- in those cases it would be VETS FIRST)

1) get a good wormer, bob martin is utter Cr*p - nip to the vets a pick up a drontol tab (if over 6mo - if not panacur paste) for about £2.50

2) check when i last used my frontline, if over a month i would re-do

3) slowly change his diet onto a quality food such as Arden Grange or Burns for dry or Naturediet for wet. It can come as an initial shock to the pocket, BUT you feed much less with a quality brand, so the price works out at only a little more in the long run.

4) It could be behavioural through boredom or just his own "wacky" ways. I would try to distract him with chew toys such as a kong etc. Plenty of mental stimulation and training to keep his mind busy and away from his back end.

5) check his anal glands are not impacted

If after 1-2 months with good flea, worming and diet in place nothing has improved then i would be contacting the vet. It goes without saying though that is he is actually damaging his skin, becoming obsessive or the condition is getting worse (after the diet change) i would have him at the vets straight away.

Hope it helps xxx

Re: Dog keeps nipping at his fur

Bob martins is not a wormer I would use myself! you can get a much better preperation from either the vet or the chemist for around the same cost!

I would be tempted to say that maybe his diet could be contributary to the 'naggin' the food you mention is pretty full of cr*p! Maybe it would be worth trying a more natural food.
