Question Change of food

My labradoodle Barney was on Almo Nataral which he seemed to like but then i looked at JWB after reading many threads and noticed how much cheaper it was also.
Almo Nataral £11.50 2kilo and JWB £7.50 2 kilos so have changed to JWB but now Barney has really loose stools and will only eat the JWB if soften first.
He is 16 weeks old.
Also he hasn't messed his bedroom for about 10 days now but the last 2 nights he has, my last feed with him is about 8pm and he goes to bed about 9.30pm and we are up about 5/5.30am with him.
Full of life this morning but turned his nose up at brekkie with is given to him about 7.30am

Re: Change of food

I assume you made the change gradually?

Im of the personal opinion that puppies shouldnt have their diet messed with a huge amount, unless they are on a really poor quality food.
Ive no experience with Almo, but id stay keep him on it until hes a bit older. Its obviously causing a problem, and by refusing his brekkie, maybe hes trying to tell you something.

Re: Change of food

I know nothing of the Almo either - BUT - If I were going to change it would be for Arden Grange (dry) or Nature Diet (Wet). Have heard several users of JWB say that their dogs are looser on this. as the above poster said any change needs to be gradual

Just incase anyone has forgotto what it looks like - my food store !

When i first rescued my dog Oscar as a puppy, we had him on Naturediet. He constantly had the runs, had 9 courses of synulox over a 6 month period, as everytime i look him to the vets, he had a really high temp. He became extremely thin, but at no point was his diet suspected, as it was supposedly the best option for him, all 3 vets at my practice were convinced it was somehting else.. One day frustration drove me to change him over, and i bought some Butchers. After that he never had a problem. I had problems with his weight until he was about 5. He was always extremely thin, and despite a miriad of tests, nothing was ever found. We stuck him on probitocs just incase, but he was, and still is, an extremely high energy dog, and it seems that he could burn off more energy than i could get into him.

Ive played with my dogs diet a bit over the past 10 years, and now he can tolerate ND with no problems. I wont feed it as the main part of his diet though, and he has just half a pack a day as a taster.

Its funny how some dogs do well on some foods, and not others.

Re: Change of food

I don't think I have met a dog yet who was uable to tolerate ND - other than a SBT that was allergic to almost everything including rice! But never say never.

My dogs are both 'hard' on ND and strictly just twice a day!

Re: Change of food

I have just phoned my vet as he just done a little poop in the house when the back door was open
and it was a bit mucass like and not sure if there was a tiny bit of blood, he had this when i first got him and was treated for cocksider (maybe spelt wrong) so waiting for him too call me back if that is what it is why has he got it again.

Did you collect a sample? Without seeing the poop and testing it, its highly unlikely that a vet can tell you what hased caused the stomach upset. If they diagnose without examination, id change my vet if i were you.
