Should I change his food?

After the first few weeks of having Rocky and him being very fussy ie going off his the brand of food we were feeding him every couple of weeks, we decided that we would stick with what he was eating and not change brand and he would just have to live to learn with it (we were running out of brands changing his food every couple of weeks)!!

We have been feeding him Nature's Harvest puppy food for the last 6 months and he's been fine with it unti the the last month or so he started missing breakfast but he would always eat dinner. But this last week it has progressed to him not eating dinner either!! He is living on his kong once a day...........and a few bites of his evening meal - obviously he can't go on like this........

So should I give in a change brands......... it's only a nother 3 months til he goes on to adult food but 3 months is too long for him to keep eating like this???

PS He is very fit and healthy and active so not poorly!

Re: Should I change his food?

He will NOT starve himself stick with the brand you have.

Dogs sometimes do this.

My gryhound is a nightmare for it.

She wont eat breakfast and then somedays dinner is left too but i pick it up after 15 minutes and thats it until the next day i place breakfast down every morning some she eats it some she doesn't same with dinner. shes 11/12 years old and has been doing this for 6 years. YET she will gladly eat all the treats you give her.

Candy on the other hand has never missed a meal and has a great love of food. if i left mistys down longer i'm sure candy would eat hers too. (candy is a dally)

Just keep with it. same brand same feeding times if the dog is hungry the dog will eat i promise. If he doesn't eat anything at all for a few days that included knog and treats then take him to the vet he may have eaten something he shouldnt that is just sitting in his tummy.

Good luck

xx

Re: Should I change his food?

Not sure on this one.

I changed Oscars food a couple of weeks ago because he was so hungry all the time and that has been succesful.

What about some Naturediet wet in his kong aswell as his other food.

You need to start with just a small amount (i freeze it into ice cube trays so i am not wasting any and just give Oscar 2 cubes in his kong).

That way you can see if it is because he has got bored or if he is off his food without totally "giving in".

I think it is fine to give 2 meals of dry and a kong of wet a day.
