My bichon frise is now 5 months old. The breeder had her on supadog puppy food and she has been fine on that up until about a month ago. She just would not eat it and would go outside and eat our other dogs poo (charming, i know!!!) She would try to eat our other dogs food but the pieces are just too large for her n i am afraid she will choke. So i went to asda and bought the same brand as our other dogs' food which is Bakers. She has started to eat this but she is only picking at it and eating the square meaty ball bits.
I dont know what else to try because she doesnt seem to be taking in enough food. i know puppys are meant to hae 3-4 meals a day but she is barely getting through 1/2 of one. Is there anything anyone else can recommend???? Also the past two nights she has been sick and it is bits of twig and other plant material that she has found in the garden, she even threw up a stone!!! is this somethin i should be concerned about???? ![]() Thanks in advance for any replies : |

Re: Puppy not eating
I think she just plays with the stones or cleans her teeth with them or something, i dont think she intends to eat them. she has been going to the toilet ok and doesnt seem in any pain and still does the bichon blitz!!!

Re: Puppy not eating
try your best to discourage her from playing with stones if she does swallow 1 it could cause a blockage, also they arnt very good for their teeth, perhaps you could give her a raw carrot or nylabone to gnaw on

Re: Puppy not eating
I have come across many pups that eat stones, it is very worrying and something that needs stopping asap (my friends dog used to like the taste of concrete!!!!) It really is a hard habit to break, whether we broke it or she grew out of it i'll never know - but it did stop, I suspected that maybe their was something missing in her diet - but that is just my opinion and not based on fact!
The foods you mention are pretty cr*ap, and yes you pup should be on three of four meals a day, if she is only eating a small portion of the amount recommended for her size/age/weight you really need to speak to the vet, as there could be some underlying reason for this. But if I were in your shoes I would try and get her onto a top quality food/mix at the earliest opportunity, pups should be fed specail puupy food in my opinion and I would use a mix of Nature diet puppy (wet) and one of the better complete dry - my choice would be Arden Grange - but their are many good quality foods available. regards DT |

Re: Puppy not eating
Please go to the vet. The fact that she's trying to eat other dogs poo and twigs, leaves, grass, etc suggests to me that she is hungry and nutritionally lacking. If she isn't managing to eat the food you give her I too would be worrying about underlying causes.
How far along is she with teething? Sh x

Re: Puppy not eating
You say that she appears energetic and happy within herself?
Does she look skinny or underweight at all? Dogs are just like us,,,some need more food than others,,,if she is still energetic and looking healthy then don't get caught up in how much she needs to eat. However as others have pointed out DO NOT let pupster eat stones - could be fatal DO feed a good food Let us know how pup gets on. |
