Won't eat biscuit !!!!

Hi there,

I have had my new greyhound for nearly a week now, and in that time she has not eaten an ounce of the complete diet that she came with. All she does is eat the meat and leaves the rest, which amounts to a 400g tin of pedigree loaf a day. Help....... this clearly is not enough for a 29kg dog. Any advice?

Since she has not eaten it, should I try her with something else, as i dont think i could upset her?

Any advice would be great.

Regards

Nikki x

Re: Won't eat biscuit !!!!

what food is her complete diet?

i'm gonna get in here before DT this time lol lol

Try her on naturediet!

Billy wont eat dry biscuits, and would only eat them soaked and mashed with his raw mince. I'm a big believer in raw diets, but theyre not always practical for holidays etc.

So - having been coached well by DT, i tried naturediet. What a difference! Billy now has 3 meals a day. 1 of raw (chicken wing or my own butchers pet mince), 1 of just ND and one of ND mixed with DRY biscuits - and he eats the lot!

NatureDiet is a complete wet food, and not expensive if bought in bulk (from berriewood wholesale - thanks again DT lol). You could either feed just ND (although you will need some chews to help keep teeth clean), ND mixed with his complete, or ND and a mixer.

I cant thank DT enough and will be sticking with ND from now on!

One thing to remember though is its heavy when delivered in bulk! I nearly ruptured myself bringing in 3 cases at once in the box lol lol lol.

Re: Won't eat biscuit !!!!

She is currently on a bag of un-named working dog dry that i bought from the rescue, that they use to feed all of their dogs, thought it best so as to not upset her too much. However it does not smell appetising in the least and as i say she does not seem to want to eat it.

I have used nature diet in the past for my german shorthaired pointer, but moved onto just dry for him, to be honest he is not fussy and will eat anything out in front of him.

I just worry about teath cleaning , as greyhound reputably have rubbish teeth!!!

Re: Won't eat biscuit !!!!

I would def try naturediet especially if you are already familiar with it... I clean my girls teeth with an old large headed tooth brush dipped in listerine, someone on here reccommended it and it works a treat! They love the taste of it too, oh and Lady no longer has stinky br3eath!!!!

Re: Won't eat biscuit !!!!

Billy gets raw chicken wings which will help with his teeth - he's tiny so cant manage the big marrowbones yet (they would be bigger than him lol)

BUT i would highly reccomend a BIG raw bone once a week to keep the teeth nice - and its a lovely healthy treat, and a meal replacement for about £0.10p! (well thats what my butcher charges!).
