Food Advice Please
We got our 8 week old shih tzu last week and the breeder said she had been using eukanuba and gave us some. She is not really eating it and earlier she managed to get to the cats wet food and was gulping it down so she is obviously really hungry. I am thinking about getting some wet food and mixing a little of it in with the dried food. Has anyone got any reccommendations for a good wet food?
Thanks |

Re: Food Advice Please
Before DT beats me to it I would recommend Naturediet for wet food or better still proper meat.
However, a new puppy can take a while to settle in and this could be why she doesn't seem interested in her food. If you are considering changing it do it slowly so that it doesn't upset her tummy.

Re: Food Advice Please
Thanks for the advice. I do soak the food in water but she is still not eating it. She is obviously hungry as she flies to the cat food and will try and eat anything that falls on the floor. Think I will pop to pets at homr or sainsburys to see what they have.

Re: Food Advice Please
firstly, make sure you feed your cat up high so that the dog cant get to it. its far too high in protein for a dog, even a puppy.
i would try feeding the food dry. soaking it just takes away the goodness of the crunch. i am not a huge fan of eukanuba either. its not a terrible food but there are lots of better ones. however if you want to go down the route of mixing in wet, then the above advise of naturediet is good. |

Re: Food Advice Please
My dog would always prefer the cat's food - but it's way too high in protein and fat (which of course makes it more appetizing for the dog!)
There are some good dry foods out there that your pup would probably eat, but you're going to have to hide the cat's dish because pups can be devious and learn that if they say 'No!' you fly to the cupboard and tempt them with goodies - at that point you've lost the battle! Try Pets at Home brand, I've always found that to be very palatable (or at least our dog has!) - There's info on the range online |
