Unhappy Greyhound very ill

Hi
Can anybody advise me on a very ill greyhound. My dog is nearly 11yrs & has picked up a water infection, she is now weeing everywhere in the house. She is also licking herself alot. We have taken her to the vets nearly every week for the past two months and she is now on her fifth type of antibotics, but nothing is helping.....can anybody help ???

Re: Greyhound very ill

Sounds like the anti bioics are not working, and the more she takes the less effect they will have on her, Has she been on the same type of AB's?? I would ask your vet for a water test - assuming that he has not taken , also looking at other areas with may entail blood tests
all the best

Re: Greyhound very ill

the vet dosent sound very helpful, you would think that they wud have taken blood tests by now rather than saying oh try these drugs and try these drugs, at the end of the day ur dog is not an experiment.

Hope u get it sorted soon and ur doggy is feelinn better soon too, Kai sends kisses lol

Re: Greyhound very ill

If this has been going on for 2 months with no improvement then the antibiotics are not working. Maybe she needs a stronger type. I would ask for a water test to be done to find out exactly what the problem is. Otherwise I would ask for a second opinion either seeing a different vet at the practice or going to a different practice altogether.

Re: Greyhound very ill

Thinking besides the water that you may be as well to ask for bloods - this is done without the need for a GA

Re: Greyhound very ill

other conditions can cause similar symptoms, maybe your vet might test for bladder stones etc as things arnt improving

When one of my boys had a bladder infection, my vet suggested giving him cranberry tablets. I also made sure that he drank a lot - giving him milky drinks through the day.

Re: Greyhound very ill

Thanks for all the responses, my vet has done some tests & the water infection has been caused my a e-coli infection & spread to being now just a water infection. She has had an x-ray & that seemed fine, the only thing he found was a enlarged spleen.....
The weeing everywhere is not a problem but i just want her to get better & after four different antibotics nothing seem to be working...
