Irish setter throat noises

I wondered if any of you had come across this problem.......
Reuben, my 12 week old Irish, has been making strange sounds in the throat area for a couple of weeks. The best way I can describe it is.....imagine a washing machine full of water, with no clothes in it, as it goes on the wash cycle there a slopping noise, as the water moves from side to side....does that make sense? We have had him to the vets last week for his 2nd Vacc. and told them. They checked him over but could find no problem. Tonight he is sat in front of us and we hear the noise again and his neck is inflating....like a bullfrog....... then it stops....weird. He is full of life, eating well, causing mayhem as only an Irish could....... but it is worrying me.....
Any thoughts anyone ????? please.

Re: Irish setter throat noises

We had a beagle who did something similar. Although I'd describe it as more of a honking sound. Mostly when he got a bit excited but could happen for no apparent reason too. We took him to the vets several times who could find nothing wrong. It never caused him any problems and he lived to 14.

Re: Irish setter throat noises

Our setter Zoe makes strange noises from time to time especially if she is excited. I would just monitor the situation for the time being and if it gets worse then back to the vets again.

Another thought is have you mentioned it to his breeder? My only experience with setters is Zoe and she's nearly 3 now.

By the way as I said she is nearly 3 and still courses mayhem. She eats absolutely anything edible or not. Even the plastic tray out of her crate.
