My best mate, Springer, has a mast cell tumour. Any advice?
Hi there,
My dog, Dexter, has a lump. The vet took a sample and told me yesterday that it is a mast cell tumour. So he's booked in tomorrow to have this removed (along with a further 3cm's of surrounding tissue) and have the tumour sent away for biopsy. Now I'm aware of the Grade 1,2,3 and I'm praying it's a 1 but I'm just wondering if anyone else has been through this. Dexter is 5 , still as mad as a box of biscuits and is showing zero signs of any illness. However I know this doesn't mean the cancer hasn't spread. I just can't stopping thinking about it. He's my best bud.! ![]() Cheers guys, Dan |

They'll cut it out tomorrow but I dunno what the delay in the biopsy will be. |

Please don't go back on the cigs, you must have worked so hard to come off them.
Have a drink instead, unless your an alcoholic of course My heart goes out to you, it must be so worrying |

I won't, not yet anyway. I'm not an alcohlic - dont worry.
![]() I'm hoping to get him groomed today before his op as i imagine it'll be a while before i can have it done next and he soo needs it. Can't seem to remain focused at work. I'll go on a super long night walk with him tonight as again, it'll be a while before his next one. ![]() |

Re: My best mate, Springer, has a mast cell tumour. Any advice?
My wonky old boy Cooper has had 2 mast cell tumours removed, to be honest they are the 'best' sort of tumour you can get (if you see what I mean!!) they are usually fine once removed. I know Cooper was bouncing from foot to foot and yapping within a couple of hours. Once removed you just have to keep an eye on them that they don't return but that's about it really.
Good luck hope he recover's as quickly as my old boy did. |

Re: My best mate, Springer, has a mast cell tumour. Any advice?
that's made me feel better - he is strong as an ox - he once ate a pair of womens tights! full set. One leg of the tights went down his intesines and the other leg was constantly being vomit up then he'd swallow it back down.
He had it it removed and also some of his intestines had to be removed also. With a few days he was back to normal and remained "normal" since. Like I said he isn't ill at all - I just hope it comes back at a benign tumour. Anyone no how long it will take to get the results back once the tumour has been sent away? |
