long nails

my old Megs nails are really long now because she cant exercise enough to wear them down any more, she wont let me or the vet clip them, so i just wondered if anyone had ever tried using a nail grinder?

thanx shortbackandsides, the last time she saw the vet he tried but she got so stressed, although shes really old shes still strong & i thought she was going to have a heart attack, so we gave up & now the only way i've been able to do it is when shes asleep but i can only get 1 nail at a time & shes getting very wary

when my mums old lab who made it to 18 needed her nails cut she sat with a packet of nail files and did them in the evening it was the only way neat would let her shorten the nails. took some time but its worth it.

Re: long nails

no shes terrible, i think she associates anyone touching them with nail clippers also her nails are so thick & strong but it might be worth a try with the file, i'll have a look at Crufts for one, thankyou Bobbie

Re: long nails

Hi
I use a dremel and found this site very helpfull

How to Dremel Dog Nails @ DoberDawn.com

mine is a cordless one so I don't have to worry about any wires.
2 of mine are ok with it but I only have to pick it up and the other dog goes upstairs lol but I leave it on the floor or leave it where she can check it out and I do it even if its only one nail a day as not to stress her out .
