Re: best foods

hello Alice, i agree with Ducky on winalot, i wouldnt feed it my dogs. Good quality dry foods are orijen, burns, nutro, arden grange, james wellbeloved they have a higher meat content with no artificial or harmful additives.

high quality natural wet foods -naturediet

& then theres raw, theres lots of information on the internet & also on this forum, you could have a look at UK barf club to find out more

Re: best foods

I'm not a fan of any commercial dog food as they all contain additives, and things that a dogs body isn't designed to eat. Commercial dog food may "feed" a dog but is the dog actually healthy on the inside? I class commercial dog food along the same lines as frozen ready meals made for us. I also think that there has been many more cases of cancer in dogs since people started to rely on commercial dog food.

My dogs eat a raw diet of meat, bones and household left overs. The main part of the their diet is chicken, either chicken wings, legs, quarters or necks. They also have a fair amount of lamb, we buy sides of lamb from a local butcher for £1 a side! This also contains parts of the ribs. Apart from that they get stuff such as rabbit, fish (mackeral, tuna, sardines, pilchards), green tripe, turkey, liver, heart, kidney, eggs, cottage cheese, but as I say the main part of the diet is chicken.

Have a look at the following site, it tells how my German Shepherd's breeder raw weaned a litter of pups, but it also has all the facts you will need to raw feed...Krisannrio's Raw feeding site Ann has also written a book called The Dog's Dinner, which I found a brilliant read, especially if you have never fed raw before.... I am sure she can be contacted via the link, otherwise google Krisannrio German Shepherds. She will be more than happy to help you. She buys all her food from Durham Animal Feeds :: DAF Petfood - Welcome. I tend to buy my dogs meat and bones (well I get the bones free!) from the butcher, the supermarket and the local pet shop.

Re: best foods

although half the week i feed dry i also do believe raw is best, & the dogs love their raw days! we get our raw from Landywood Pet Foods : Home, but you do need a chest freezer! as £40 is their minimum order

Re: best foods

hi every one, thanks for your replys.

the only reason i ask what food is best is that i obviously just want the best for Monty, and i want him to be healthy.

thank you for the list of good dry foods

i give my dog liver sometimes but i cook it in the grilling george forman thing lol thing for him as i heared raw meat, especially pigs liver and things can contain alot of nastie things if not cooked??

alice.

Re: best foods

I have struggled with my whippets diets for years. They are both very fussy and were always slightly underweight. About 4 weeks ago I changed them onto a raw diet and the difference is incredible. They both wolf down their food as soon as it goes down for them, whereas before they would just sniff, pull an ugly face and walk away They have both put on weight, have silky coats and seem very happy in themselves. Now that I've made the change over and seen the results I will not go back to my old way of feeding. I must admit though they do have a bowl of biscuits down for them all the time and will nibble a few throughout the day.

Re: best foods

Max and Molly's diet!!!
When they were 8 weeks old to 6 months, four times a day they had puppy milk, scrambled eggs, cooked fresh fish, meat, chicken, tripe extra vittamins, cod liver oil.weetabix ready brec, and baby rusks, and burns minni bites, grated carrots's,and cheese, and apple, and low protien puppy treats. Then onto normal burns and nature food, and sardines, carrots and apples, and bigger low protien treats.
They are both growing into stonge puppies, lovely shinny coat, lovely white tooth, no bad breath, and they smell lovely, and are very healthy. I sprinkle charcole grandules on the top, and some grated veg and cheese. Twise a day.
They have loads of energy, and love running in the woods, and fetching their toys we throw.
