Belle's_mummy is on a distinguished road
11 wk Min Pin is very poorly...

Hi,

I'm not sure if I'm looking for support or any one who has had a similar experience...

My miniature pinscher (Belle) is in the vets for the second time in 3 weeks and I am beside myself with worry. I bought her from a registered breeder (although I'm now starting to wonder if she was legit) on 3/1/09. I got feeding advice and a 'puppy pack' which stated she had been wormed 31.12.09. I didn't get a contract or her KC papers but she told me she would forward the KC stuff when it arrived. I have a 23 wk old beagle and this was the same with him, although we did get a contract when we picked him up.

Anyway, Belle was thriving, a beautiful, loving, fearless little thing and was very much settled into our home immediately. She ate, drank, played and cuddled just like a 'normal' healthy puppy would. I took her to the vets within 48 hrs of picking her up and had her jab and a clean bill of health.

That was until a week later, she vomitted worms and passed them at the other end too. According to the paper work she wouldn't have been due a worming treatment for another few days but i treated her immediately. She had continous diarrhea and so I took her to the vets. Because of the volume and size of the worms, it became clear that she had not been wormed She was poorly but with some TLC she would recover...

She didn't and soon it was clear that there was blood and mucus in her faeces despite a sensitivity control feeding schedule of every two hours. I took her back to the vets and she was kept in over night. In the am I was called and told to collect her as she was 'bright' and had not passed any blood. The minute she got home she passed blood and continued to do so. I phoned the vets and was told to 'monitor' the situation.

This week she appeared to improve, until yesterday. I only left her for a couple of hours and I returned to blood and faeces everywhere. I took her back to the vets and they are keeping her until saturday. She has lost weight and just looked at me as if to say I'm giving up Mummy. I just don't know what to do, I am crying as I type because I am petrified of having to say goodbye to a member of my family.

Should I contact the breeder? I am so cross and upset I just don't know what to do.

I do hope she gets better!!
Well this breeder sounds like a right one! i would report her to the KC she should not be breeding!
would sugar and honey in water help to perk her up a bit? i was doing that the other week when my year old pup was ill.

So sorry about your poor little pup, I hope she recovers.
Personally, I wouldn't contact the breeder until you know the outcome and you are in a better frame of mind to deal with whatever crops up in your fight for your puppy and others that this person may breed in the future.
I think you will need a clear head to deal with this

I would contact the breeder! Very sad story and I can only pray the your baby should recover quickly. Just keep thinking positive and go to visit the pup if you can and bring her a toy but make sure to wash it before hand, not that you didn't already know that, hugs and do keep us posted, again so sorry!

Re: 11 wk Min Pin is very poorly...

would half tend to agree with Rona on this one -but having said that have you got all the documention that you were expecting (I am a little unclear),if not you could maybe telephone her and ask if it is all available yet - and maybe mention that you are rather concerned as your dog seems to be infested with worms and having to spend quite a time at the vets and recheck the dates the dog was done and what was used? Try a bit of fishing to see if any of the other pups have had probs

You are probbly aware that a puppy needs worming every month until it is six months old - you said that you woemed the puppy yourself immediately you realized that there were worms evident - which wormer did you use? as many of the ones on sale in the supermarket are pretty useless.

Obviously you are very concerned about her weight - as with a small young dog you cannot afford this to be dropping off - maybe you can feed her some chicken and rice and try and boost her a little.
You are doing the right thing by your pup with the vet - he really is the only oe who can get to the bottom of this - but forum members will support you.
I wish you and your puppy all the best and sincerely hope that you see some improvement soon.

I agree you are in no state of mind to contact the breeder at present but I definately would do it in writing and also send a letter from your vet stating his opinion. Keep copies of everything and give her a chance to answer your concerns. I really hope your little one is ok. Thinking of you both
