New and worried ..

hi guys and girls im new to the sight , ive had westie's which i love since the wife would not let me get a bulldog anyways she finaly gave in and i now have my Winston.

he is such a lovely dog and i want to do everything i can to ensure he is getting everything he needs.

now i have read through your site and found lots of idea's etc about food but alias rather confusing so im still sitting here puzzled ..

he is 11 weeks old and is going for his final injection tomorrow, the vet checked him over and said he is lovely healthy dog and i really want to keep him that way. sooo please could any of the breeders, owners suggest a nice puppy food for him ie, somthing from pets at home. and also i see people suggesting raw diet, could i say feed him and nice dried < moist> food with a sort of evening meal of raw meat and where is the best place to get raw diet from butchers ?

thanks in advance ..

Re: New and worried ..

It is alsway my advise to NOT change your new puppy's food until they are well settled in their new environment. They are used to the food that the breeder has been feeding them and any changes now will probably result in tummy problems, vet visits, special food and lots of worry. Even the change in water, or stress can upset them at this stage.

Let him settle in for a couple of months and take this time to research food then introduce the change slowly

Hi and welcome
If you want to start using the BARF diet it may be an idea to google it and read a little first.

If you are looking at a good natural prepared food - N aturediet takes some beating -but I wouldn't buy it from PAH - you can buy it from a wholesaler for around 50p per pack - I would without doubt use the
NatureDiet puppy - I am currently paying £8.44 for 18
also
Arden Grange puppy (yhellow bag) is a good food - you can buy both these from BeringwoodW
regards
DT

Re: New and worried ..

hey dundee my breeder gave me a bag but it was a clear plastic bag and i didnt ask he did however write down for me what protien fat etc i should look for in a food, but i stumbled across this site and started to worry..

After speaking to people. basicly been a pest i have got Royal canin maxi junior.

as of today im starting to put a small amount of this in his food and gradually take him off the other stuff if he reacts to it ok , it smells lovely and i hope its the right choice ?

DoubleTrouble: i did look for that food but couldnt find it,I did go to PAH as its really close i know its a bit more expensive there but what ever it takes..

Re: New and worried ..

Royal canin is not a bad food at all but as vets get paid to sell it by the maufacturers its sometimes recommended without thought as to the requirements of the dog , i used to feed Daisy R/C labrador puppy then junior , was there not a puppy food ? instead of junior , or have they changed names now and junior means puppy .

Re: New and worried ..

hi i have a 17yr old english springer that had a tumour removed and another that cant be taken out she also has arthritis and is incontinent......please do a lot of research before deciding what to feed your dog as dogs eat raw food (they dont cook it in the wild) as it is there natural diet........ i gradually replaced my dogs diet with raw and she is a completely different dog its almost like she is a puppy again and seeing the difference has left me feeling so upset that i was poisoning her before ....... i was given the raw diet advice by someone on here and her incontinence problem has cleared up as well........it makes absolute sense that dogs dont cook there food and they dont eat all the harmful chemicals that are put into it ....... unless we give them it.......i have never been without a dog and when the time comes (which i hope will not b for a long time yet) i will definitely wean the dog onto raw food i am truelly grateful for finding this site..thanx ev1 and i hope you have many happy years with your dog

you must research what chemicals and other rubbish is put into pet food its horrendous
