Re: Poorly toy poodel puppy - help needed

hello

she has just been admitted to the local vet hospital

she got no better today so we took her to a different vets practice

the vet suspects menigitis or possibly neurological so she is in having bloods taken now

she has a provisional gereral anaesthetic booked for tomorrow am depending on the bloods

i dont know why but i had the suspicion of the neurological as my mums cat died in may and the way he looked was very similar to my little puppy

they are going to call us tonight by 10pm once they have the blood results back

luckily we have insurance as they have quoted £400 minimum up to £800 for the anaesthetic investigation - money is not a factor of course but at least its a weight of the mind

i will keep all informed thanks for your comments x

Thats awful, you must be so worried. I panic when Pip starts coughing up a bit of grass, so I have no idea how you are coping. I hope they get to the bottom of it all.

Re: Poorly toy poodel puppy - help needed

Hi

Its not looking good - she had low blood sugar (maybe because of lack of food while she was feeling unwell) so is on a glucose drip.

She is also not seeing well and the vet also thinks her Kidney is too small to function.

The vet has also arranged for her to see an animal neurosurgeon on Monday so looks like she will be in all weekend.

We are visiting tonight so will try to get a better prognosis then.

I am concerend that when she got her micro chip on Monday it has damged her as she is so small and fragile - does this ever happen - she doesnt have as much flesh round her neck as a bigger dog and wonder if something may have been damaged.

Its so worrying. Cant wait to give her a nice cuddle tonight.

Re: Poorly toy poodel puppy - help needed

When Inca had her first injection, we had a similar reaction. She howled when the injection went in but she is a bit of a drama queen so I didn't think too much about it. Every time we touched her, she howled, and when it came to eating her tea, she couldn't get her head down far enough to get anywhere near to it. She was depressed and very obviously uncomfortable. We took her to the emergency vet, who gave her a metacam injection and further injection (can't remember what). He said that some puppies have a reaction to the injection but I firmly believe that it was put into the wrong place. I was very reluctant to take her back to the same practice for her second injection but did and she had no further reaction. I did however insist on another vet to do the injection. When it came to being microchipped, I was afraid we would have a worse reaction to a bigger needle but she needed it done in order to send some blood to America. Neither of my poodles reacted to this much bigger needle. So, I think some of your poodle's symptoms could be a reaction to the injection but others need further investigation. I would get a second opinion from another vet practice.
