favourite treats for dogs not motivated by food
Ive tried practically every treat with margo and we have stumbled across a gem.
James well beloved pure incentives fish and parsley ..they are freeze dried treats and she looooooooooooves them. I dont know if its because they reeeeek as she is a very sniffy girl but it works a treat. She also loves sea jerky twists...they smell VERY strong as well. but its great for her to chew on and is a natural product. Its good because she doesnt like the ones full of additives like the strips of stuff although her fishy breath is something we have to live with ![]() Both well worth a go. |

Re: favourite treats for dogs not motivated by food
My girl is not motivated by food either .. Getting her to eat anything can sometimes be quite difficult ..
Muffin - Shmakos; black pudding sticks (eat your dinner and you get dessert); something we call pizza, its like a pizza triangle with lots of different meats (if your interested I will ask the shop what they are); tripe sticks she thinks are ok but only just. As for treats as in for teaching aids .. she loves salmon & smoked salmon, duck, she gets to lick my finger with extra thick double cream (that is probably her favourite and they have learned to effectively wipe their feet on that .. its a big winner), small pieces of cheddar cheese and she quite likes the odd apple, peeled and in small pieces and prunes also without the skin. Henry - he loves dried liver and Bakers Moist and Meaty. He will eat all the others .. but he would always choose the liver if available and he wants Moist and Meaty for his dinner .. mummy isnt so sure its a good idea (which is why she came here today!) I will try the fish and parsley .. sounds like they may well be a good walking treat! |

Re: favourite treats for dogs not motivated by food
I found this and I know it works because my dogs love it. It stinks though lol
Some dogs are very fussy eaters and this makes training harder to achieve. You can use a toy instead, but food is the ultimate tool in training. If you have tried sausage, baked liver, hotdogs, yummy dog treats and your dog is still fussy here is a recipe, which lots of dog handler’s use and which may have the desired result for your dog. This is a very smelly recipe! Therein lies its power, so you will only have to rub your fingers into the food and your dog will be begging for more! LIVER CAKE Ingredients: 8oz Lambs liver 12oz Flour 2 Eggs 3-4 Cloves of garlic Little Milk Liquidize the liver, garlic and eggs together. When smooth pour into another bowl containing the flour and fold in. Add the milk. (TIP – do not use liquidizer for this stage as it is too sticky.) You should end up with a heavy sponge cake type consistency. Pour into a well greased roasting tin, (TIP – margarine is usually best for this) and bake for one and half to two hours at about gas mark 2/3, 300/320f, or 150/170c. Check after one hour. Test if cooked – When a knife in centre comes out clean, it is done. When cool slice and freeze. Hopefully the combination of liver and garlic will be irresistible for your dog. It will be well worth the effort to achieve the desired response in your dog! |

Re: favourite treats for dogs not motivated by food
Livery cake!! Tried to make it once...nearly had to move out of my house cos of the stench!!! Dogs were extreamly happy and loved it but I'm not sure I could do it again (I'm vegi so find cooking meat smell extreamly hard to deal with!!)I find the best thing is cheese, all of mine love it and it's easy to carry with you. Also sausages, I just buy the cheap one's from the supermarket and cook a big pile then chop them up. They are useful for distance recall cos they can get a whiff and come running!! Fish4dogs do some really good training treats, might be worth trying them? |

We have Dried Venison Liver available on our website. It is good for dogs with allergies.
Also Venison Hearts if your dog prefers a softer treat. Cheers, Andrew Last edited by naturaldogtreats_co_uk; 28-01-2009 at 07:30 AM.. |

Re: favourite treats for dogs not motivated by food
Our dogs both get excited over squeaky toys, you can get some quite loud ones that fit into your pocket.
The problem with these is that they can attract other dogs ![]() DID A DT> THOUGHT YOU WERE AFTER TRAINING AIDS Last edited by rona; 28-01-2009 at 08:44 AM.. |
