Unhappy Poorly puppy

Hi
Poppy is our 9 month old beagle, usually very lively and into everything. For the last 3 days she has been very subdued sleeping all the time, cant jump up onto the sofa as she normally does and seems to be walking more gingerly. She hasnt been sick or got diarrhoea. She will eat but isnt drinking water, will only take ice cubes. We took her to the vet on new years day and he diagnosed tonsilitis!! He's given her antibiotics but im still worried and not convinced about the diagnosis. Why would tonsilitis affect the way she walks? Has anyone experienced tonsilitis in their dogs, any help would be appreciated, im so worried.

Re: Poorly puppy

It sounds to me as if your dog is in pain, and probably not from her throat. See another vet for a second opinion

Re: Poorly puppy

Sorry to hear Poppy is unwell.
If you are unsure I would go back to the vets for a second opinion.
Hope she is back to her old self soon.

Re: Poorly puppy

yes - tonsilitis in one of my past dogs. It can make them feel quite poorly and the other news is that it is they can be prone to it. Our dog had it quite routinely. I don't know why a particular dog would be prone to it.

Question Re: Poorly puppy

Ok, the good news is that after taking the antibiotics Poppy now seems better, physically but Im now concerned that she may be having a phantom pregnancy and that it may have been that all along. shes very clingy, whining and whimpering all the time (not usual for her). Shes collecting socks and gloves (in fact anything soft) and just sits with them either in her mouth or in front of her. If she thinks anyones going near them she quickly snatches them up. Ive taken them away when shes not looking and she runs round frantically looking for them. She is sleeping still quite a lot and ive noticed that in the morning shes scratched the bedding in her crate around quite a lot (again not usual). Her nipples do seem bigger than before she had her first season, which was about 8 weeks ago but havnt noticed any milk. She also keeps getting under the sofa more often than normal. Sound familiar to anyone???????
