Grass Seed Nightmare

Hello all,

new to the board and would like some advice my 3 year old border collie Molly had a grass seed in her foot it has now been removed but there is a hole in the pad which will not heal, the vets have advised removing the pad but she has other issues with neck and back problems which will cause further problems.
She limps on the foot i keep it clean and if we are walking on hard ground she wears a boot but is unable to run with it as it just comes of.
This has been going on for months now i do not want it amputated but i can not get it to heal.
she is on previcox for the back and neck problems

I don't know where you live, but when one of my dogs had something similar, we took her to the beach twice a week. No amount of salt water bathing that you do yourself at home can compare to a nice long paddle in the sea

Re: Grass Seed Nightmare

i live in Bournemouth right next to the beach but the vet will now allow her to go to the beach as the running in the sand which can be quite gravelly will not help the hole.! but i am close enough to fill a bucket of sea water up and try thank you

Re: Grass Seed Nightmare

A friend of mine has a boxer who had to have a pad amputated due to a car accident , he cope as normal without the pad and has had no affect on his movement , if the pad wont heal it may end up being the best thing .
Also if your dog is suffering with joint issues have you tried or heard of Bio flow ?
It is a collar that has a high powered magnet attatched to it , I was recommeneded one for our Jess when she was lame due to falling on her shoulder , she had x rays and nothing was broken or fractured yet she limped for about 12 weeks , until that is i bought her a bio flow collar and after wearing it for 10 days her limped vanished , it is fantastic for dogs who suffer with arthritis or joint problems but can also help with other things too due to the way the magent has an effect on the system . Jess now wears her collar every day it cost me £30 but was the best thing i ever bought .

Re: Grass Seed Nightmare

This is one of the more common reasons for vet visits throughout the summer and autumn. People with long coated dog particularly should always check between the toes after a walk at these times of year
