Panting Dog?

We have a seven month old Springer Spaniel that has started panting for no aparent reason. She has a poorly leg so no exercise at the moment, she has plenty of access to fresh water and we have even turned down the heating but she keeps panting!!

Any ideas? Tried search but couldnt find anything...

Re: Panting Dog?

Hi, I'd say shes started panting over the past week or so..

We think she may have some soft tissue damage, had xrays and her bones seem ok but she just limps on her right front leg. Been told to rest her, but how do you rest a crazed English Springer puppy!!!

Re: Panting Dog?

sorry to hear about your dogs leg it is very hard to get a spinger to stay still they are so full of bounce i had one who had hip displacier and had an op and vets said to keep her calm, when he went to get her from the kennal she see me and bounced everywhere not even the vet could restrain her, but she was ok,

With the panting it sounds like they are in pain i would contact the vets again and explain this to them they may give you some pain killers for your dog, hope she is gets better soon

Re: Panting Dog?

I agree, dogs tend to pant when they are uncomfortable in any way. Hopefully some stronger pain relief will sort it out. Just got to go back to the vets I'm afraid

Re: Panting Dog?

Hi
dogs can pant for a number of reasons, it can also be down to behavioural problems such as stress, excitement, neverousness, anxiety or it maybe something like breathing in too much dust etc. i hope this helps, best of luck, Amy

Re: Panting Dog?

Hi, thanks for all your comments.

We went to see the vet, and now booked to see a specialist in Birmingham regarding her leg.

The vet didnt seem to worried about the panting...

She's on MetaCam for the moment, just need to get to see this specialist and work out whats happening with her leg and get that sorted. Hopefully this will resolve the panting as well as i sense she's frustrated with not being out on walks and being stuck to brief lead walking
