New Pup: being given 3 jabs ... is this okay
Dear All
This is my first post on the forum and I hope you can help. I have recently gotten a Lagotto Romagnolo (at 8 weeks old) and took him for his first set of innoculations 4 weeks ago. I was told to return in 4 weeks for the 2nd set and that was yesterday. But yesterday I was told to return in another 4 weeks for the parvo innoculation by itself. I've had pups before but always have only had 2 sets of innoculations in the first year and I guess assumed that the parvo was included along with the first two sets. Is this something new? Re: New Pup: being given 3 jabs ... is this okay
Hiya,
I've heard of this and its just that some vets use different brands / strengths of the first innoculation. My pup had 2 vaccines over 3 weeks so she was out for walks at around 12 weeks old. If you are worried, raise it with your vet and I'm sure they'll help you feel at ease. I think the norm has always been two jabs, but you know what the medical world is like for trying to better things! Ahem! Good luck!Kelsey |

Re: New Pup: being given 3 jabs ... is this okay
Hi Folks
Thank you for responding. I decided to call my vet and ask why the three jabs and he said thats the way he likes to innoculate. Also mentioned that there is an increased number of parvovirus cases this year and he's not taking any chances as my six year old dog - Buddy - died in September of something very similar in symptons to parvo (ie. bloody diarrhorea). With my new puppy - a lagotto romagnolo - I don't think he wants to take any chances and so he's being innoculated at 16 weeks with the parvo vaccination on it's own. He said that it was optional but I have opted to return in another four weeks and get that last jab - I don't want to see another dog die in that way ever again. |
