Question Hip Dysplasia

My 13mth old labrador has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia yesterday. We went through a traumatic time last year with our previous Lab who was diagnosed with dysplasia at 6mths old and consequently developed major intestinal problems following treatments and died.

The vet, this time, has mentioned using Cartrophen Injections. Does anyone have any advice or experience of using this form of treatment?
Thanks

Re: Hip Dysplasia

Can't praise them enough, they worked miracles for my dog When his hips were diagnosed, there was a real question as to whether he'd have any quality of life at all the one joint was so deformed He was suddenly over night incredibly lame, and obviously in pain, which means a lot, as most dogs will not show pain if they can help it.
At the time I was told hip replacement was not an option as he's a cocker and the vet said the joints available were made for bigger dogs and wouldn't fit [don't know if that's the case still, it was 6 yrs ago.]
He started with weekly injections , then monthly, and eventually was so improved he now has just a couple of courses a yr, of one jab a week for a month.
They were so effective it meant we could keep up his mobility so his muscles could support the joint, and there was no need for pain meds.
Without the cartrophen I honestly don't think he'd be with us

He never had any side effects at all, all we noticed was a return to fitness.
Hope they work as well for you
