Question help poorly dog

My 5yr old Labrador bitch is acting weird!!!
She is normally rather active but the last couple of days all she has done is sleep!!
Normally she will do this on our bed but has not been bothered.
She seems to be panting an enormous amount too.I know i should take her to the vets but cant afford to till tuesday!!!
her colour seems fine but she has a very warm and dry nose!
Is there anything i can do at home to help her??

Re: help poorly dog

Until you know the problem you cant really give advice as it could be a number off things. Are her stools normal is shes drinking alot more than normal. Is she neutered or in season. Sorry for alot of ques but it helps to rule a few things out. I would ring your vet and explain how your dog is and about your finace situation and see what they suggest some times they will accept a post dated cheque.

Re: help poorly dog

Have you asked your vet if you can take her to see them and then pay on Tuesday, I know it isnt something they encourage but I know mine have done it for me in the past, after all the dogs well being should be their first priority. It may be worth asking.

Re: help poorly dog

I would ring the vet for advice now. Tell the vet the symptoms and say that money is tight and there is no way you can pay for a consultation until Tuesday. But you are also concerned that if you don't get advice and maybe a consultation today/Friday you simply cannot cope with out of hours charges over the weekend.

The answer I would expect your vet to give is to say observe your lab for 24 hours and ring in Friday lunchtime to see if an afternoon consultation is needed.

Is your bitch spayed?
If not, pyometra is likely at her age and this needs attention immediately, so do ring the vet now to go through the symptoms with you. Listless, lack of appetite and excessive thirst are key pointers.

If she is spayed, she may just be a bit down. I don't know what the yawning might indicate but it is something to mention to the vet.

If you ring now you can get something sorted and you will be easier in your mind that you are following vet advice rather than thinking you are neglecting your lab because of money worries.

Re: help poorly dog

Yeah I totally agree with the post above.

What is her poo like and has been sick?
They are the main things, you have to look out for in an unwell dog.

I do hope she is better today. It may be a minor infection. Best thing is to just to take her too the vets..

Re: help poorly dog

I hope this reply does not come to you twice as something went wrong.

Your dog sounds really very ill and needs to see a vet. If you are on benefits go to the PDSA clinic. Otherwise contact the Animal Blue Cross Organisation for advice or ask your vet if you can pay either in instalments or if you can pay later, if you are expecting any money.

You really need to get your dog into treatment as soon as possible.

Best of luck.
