nails

last week my dog lillie went in the vets for xrays, while under sedation they cut her nails, this was last monday. the problem is one nail in particular has been cut very short when i take her out for a walk it bleeds, only very slightly but it shows on her white fur. when she is home it doesnt bleed so only when out walking. what can i do to help it heal and any idea how long it will take untill its back to normal, its been a week now and no better, with thanks.

Re: nails

Hi!

You can buy styptic powder and put it on the nail! It completely stops the bleeding.

Hope this helps

Lightbulb One for the first aid kit that you have.

When it is not bleeding, clean with a drop of iodine etc and dry use a small drop of superglue to seal the end. Before doing so you might use a fine nail-file to smooth any loose edge but also to provide a rough surface on to which the glue can adhere around the smooth circumference. This will come off in a few days so there is little risk of trapping in 'infection'. But it is better than nothing and allows mild exercise while nature effects a more permanent repair.
