Choosing a new vet

We're moving at the end of the month so we will need to choose a new vet - there are two in the local area that I like the look of for different reasons. I will of course be asking the opinions of local dog owners when we move but I thought I'd canvas opinions based on their websites:

This one has a really good website - they seem knowledgeable and lots of good info and factsheets. A nice, clearly laid out informative section on things like vaccinations. They also specialise in exotic pets and I have a cornsnake.

Midland Vet Surgery

This one is part of a larger vet chain which I'm not as comfortable with but it is a vet hospital with good access to specialists. As part of the same group we would have easier access to nearby hydrotherapy facilities and I would like to start taking Gypsy to hydro. It is also closer and as we don't drive that does make it easier.

Goddard Vet Group - Wanstead Animal Hospital

So thoughts? Opinions?

Re: Choosing a new vet

Perhaps visit them and see if you get a different impression in person and you could register snake with Midland and dogs with the other if you feel they offer better things for each. It looks like the wanstead hospital does the out of hours cover for Midland.

That's what I was thinking - I also wanted to have a talk with them about sighthounds and see how aware they are. We're a bit spoiled at our current vet as he has had greyhounds in the past and currently has borzoi's and whippets.

Re: Choosing a new vet

don't judge a book by its cover!

give yourself a chance and go see the vets,
just visit them.... see how they respond to your visit.
how you feel once you visit them

Re: Choosing a new vet

If you go with the first one and have an out of hours emergency, it looks as if you will have to go to the second one anyway!!!!
