Cycle of season?

Hi folks I'm hoping someone might be able to shed any light on this, because up to now I'm bamboozled with all the conflicting info Ive been reading on different websites.
Lily our 12month ESS has just started her first season, we spotted some drips of blood on her blanket this morning and her vulva is a lttle swollen. Anyway I'm getting a little confused as to when she starts getting randy because we have another ESS male in the house as well and Im desperatly trying to keep them separated (although Milo the male is a bit dippy and I'm not sure he would notice anyway) but I have read that once Lily has finished her bleeding she would then become randy for a while? Am I right in thinking that this is the time we need to be completely hyper vigilant with them both? We aren't able to get Milo to the vets in time for a castration op. I know it's probably going to be a logistical nightmare for the next few weeks keeping them apart.
Has anyone had any experience of this with their pooches?
Any advice would be great.
Thanks
Keeley xx

Re: Cycle of season?

I have no idea about cycles etc but I'm sure some knowledgeable members will be along soon. However if it was me I would already be being hyper vigilant, last thing you want is them doing the deed on the sly

Re: Cycle of season?

I was under the impression they are receptive from around 2 weeks after 1st sign of blood, but i may be wrong!

My dog is confusing me at the moment, she's only 10 months old and had her 1st season in November but it was a dry season, she was responsive to a dog out on a walk so when i got her home i checked and she was slightly swollen, swelled up like mad over the next 5 weeks but didnt bleed at all...........3 months later(she's due to be spayed in next 2 weeks)and now confusing me again as she was absolutely bombarded by a randy JR today who was determined to have his way with her....no sign of another season but he wasn't doing it to the other unspayed bitches so making me think she's going to have another one which means i have to postpone her spaying!

This cycle thing is really baffling me to atm!

Re: Cycle of season?

Yeh I know it's got me confused. I think perhaps we just need be extra extra vigilant from now on really until she comes out of it. Lily has twice attempted to mount Milo today who hasn't the faintest what is going on lol

Thanks for your responses
