We adopted our dog. She wasn't ours from a puppy and, unfortunately for her, I'm only beginning to learn about causes/supplements etc. She is my first dog and although I'm sure you didn't mean to offend me, I'm obviously inexperienced.

Better late than never and I'm hoping I've found the right place to help both me and my dog.

Re: Glucosamine - which form?

I feel for you bedslug
people are not born with all the knowledge…. they have to learn….. you and me and all the rest.
I was going to reply on that earlier but I did not want to upset anyone here !
Some people hit you with a hammer first without knowing the background…. like in your case!!! And than the might ask you about the problem.
Please don’t let this get to you, this forum is a great place to find answers to many questions.
It is great that you try to get information about the causes and supplements…

and yes...
you have found the right place!

Just my personal point of view but I think feeding a diet that covers the likes of Glucosamine and EFAs without processed "supplements" is better for both dog and human, after all a supplement is only there to provide something missing in the normal diet.

Hmmm so when anyone STARTS out in anything, to they ALL have the requisite skills, knowledge, ability, training and experience FIRST?

Like driving a car? Learning to ride? Learning to sail?

No, of course they do not.

In addition the best diet in the world will not necessarily prevent health problems as many can be due to poor genetics and/or environmental factors.

Also, many dogs (like humans) require EXTRA nutrients because of various factors eg performance dogs etc

There are various methods of providing glucosamine, I choose tablets because, for my lifestyle, they are easier to transport, administer and prepare than powder (which can cake, spill etc).

Some people cannot or do not want to feed raw foods, that does not make them deficient dog owners.

Re: Glucosamine - which form?

Luckily, I have quite a thick skin and know that when people comment it's only on a snippet of information that has been provided.

I'm thoroughly looking into all the suggestions that have been made. Admittedly, my decisions might not be ideal to other dog owners but I can only do what is feasible.

Unfortunately, a completely raw/BARF diet isn't possible, however a combination of raw/BARF and kibble is.
