Plz help,puppy eatin adult food

Hello.
Im hoping someone can help here,as I need to do the right thing.
My pup Missy is only eating what Star the big dog eats and thats pedigree natures choice dry.Ive got her on her own puppy food, but she compleatly ignors this when Star starts eating,as its high up he tends to drop bits and she gobbles it up,even streaching up to get more.
Will this hurt her, eating adult food,so far there seems no probs with the poo's,she is a yorkie, any advice is greatly appreciated thank you...........

Won't really do her any harm - it's just the protien levels that differ. My youngest (who is a year old today - does exactly the same) - try and feed seperate - when their is nothing else going she shoulsd (with luck) eat her own food.
regards

Re: Plz help, puppy eatin adult food

Hi there,

I know this situation well as I have a 4 month old pup who does the same with our 7 year old - the adult food is much more appealing! I guess they are just like us - when we were kids we always wanted to grow up fast!

I have seperated my dogs when they are fed before - ie: one is outside for a sniff and toilet whilst the other one eats inside and vise versa although the pup is now starting to realise as Ebs (our older girl) tells her whats what! I think and hope your top dog will eventually tell your pup what he/she can/can't do.

Good luck!

Re: Plz help, puppy eatin adult food

Yeah best to keep the adult food away. When my puppy was younger, he ate some of his dad and mum's food. It didn't cause him any harm or anything. So I am sure there is no need to worry - just dont make it a habit.

It may not be the food just that the older dog is feeding me so the puppy thinks.

I would always give the older dog food first, let him/her finish, then feed the younger dog.

Pack order - older dogs in charge, young dogs have to wait their turn.
