Advice on Inusrers and Policies please..

Most of you are aware of our problem with pups back paw's started occasional clicking (not her hips as ive listened with my head down there and its defo her paws)

anyway, we have been advised to get insurance as our free insurance with KC just run out and we are not covered by house insurance as we thought we were (weve just checked), my GF has looked at qoutes from different companies and we thought it would be best asking everyone on here what they would recommend with regards to Insurance companies and cover options, I started a new thread in-case someone not involved in the other thread knows a bit about this.. new topic!

look forward to replies and thanks in advance

Be carefull changing companies with a pre existing condition, they may not cover it!

well, we never took out insurance with KC... it was complimentary or something when we bought the pup...4 weeks free, KC do not know about this problem (if it IS a serious problem that needs claimed) so how can this affect our cover elsewhere?

If you have seen a vet about it but not claimed and dont declare as pre existing it could bite you in the bottom one day.

If you continue with the same company that underrights the one you got for free then its not a pre existing condition, you just never claimed for it.

Any pre existing conditions have to be declared and most will not cover them.

That's incorrect. If it's on your pet's medical record and you either change insurer OR continue with the same insurer under anything but a 'lifelong' policy then it's a pre-existing condition and any future claims for that, and possibly for anything related to it, will be refused. So, if your vet spots it and puts it on record - then it's on record and ALL insurance companies will refuse to pay out on it. The 'freebie' insurance doesn't carry on into the new cover - they just make you think it does. It's a separate policy.

As far as companies go - I was insured with the KC on their freebie and stupidly carried on with it. As a result of what they did I set up a website which shows only 'ethical' insurance companies e.g. they pay out. Click on the link in my sig for a brief rundown on pet insurance and, if you want full information, there's now a 15 page report you can view which gives the full ins and outs.

Please don't insure with the Kennel Club or with E&L. You'll regret it if you do.
Dogless and snadge like this.

Re: Advice on Inusrers and Policies please..

I would avoid Direct Line. A friend had had claims refused on the basis that the dog was a show dog and studded.

I'm with Petplan. Horrifically expensive but never had an issue and they have always paid out and direct to the vets, so I've never been out of pocket.

Re: Advice on Inusrers and Policies please..

thanks AlbtertRoss - i will have a look at your website, iam sorry to hear the KC would not pay out, glad we turned them away

EDIT: had a quick flick thru that report - very good!! I see how tricky it can be and why you should get the best/correct cover the first time round and stick with it cos it can get very messy if you attempt to switch

Re: Advice on Inusrers and Policies please..

well I'm with Direct Line and had no problems at all when I needed to claim. They were very sympathetic when I had to have my dog pts both on the phone and in the letter they sent with the cheque and paid quickly for what was covered by my policy.
