Unhappy urgent help needed!!

hello everyone

I need your help, i have a 4 year old bichon and last week he had been in the vets for a few days because he was so poorly, we brought him home on friday and now this is a big problem we are having at the moment with him, when the vet called us that evening and said that he was eating with a little encouragement from them hand/finger feeding him (thats how ill he was) said he could eat by himself after a little encouragement, well we have been trying to get Toby to eat his meals from finger/hand feeding like the vets had been doing, now he has gone from eating from our hands or fingers to not eating anything at all, this is worrying for me as I have had him from a puppy and wouldnt like to see him starve to death, i mean when i say this he is only touching a finger amount of food (pea sized) this isnt like toby at all, he used to be a good eater and i wouldnt like to see him go downhill, last night he was vomiting past himself and began to shake, then after i took him for a walk to our local park i noticed he had promenant blood in his stools

any ideas onto how I can get him to eat, this has been going on now for a long time and dont know whether its time for a vet visit but i dont know, what do you guys think?

Main thing is is he drinking?, water or liquid is the most important thing if he isnt drinking at all then he will de-hydrate again and have to be put back on a drip.

What are you trying him with? is it hes usual dog food? if so perhaps try him on chicken with no skin thats light and easily digestible, or a little white fish. You can even do him a little scrambled egg. That will be better then nothing. Have you tried the little cesar meals they make for small dogs, sometimes if you warm it too, it gets the smell going and is a bit more enticing maybe not the best food in the world but again it would be something. If he has kibble do you feed it dry? If you do soak it with warm water and leave it to go soft, maybe he will eat that better.
You can get Liquid canned food for that is for use during recovery for illness injury or surgery called Liquivite, maybe you can get him to lick up or gently syringe something like that as its liquid in the corner of his mouth.
You can get puppy milk called Welpi and there is another RCV Baby dog Milk if he will drink that or lap it or even if you syringe some of that into his mouth
that would be giving him nutrients.

The liquivite tinned food is a mix of chicken, liver, beef, eggs and skimmed milk, if you have a lquidiser you could even make him some liquidised food like you would home made baby food, given it to him slightly warm, he may lick it up.

One thing I would say, is if I were you I personally would be going to another vet to get a second opinion, because it still doessnt sound like they have got to the cause of the problem.
Ianthi likes this.
