Natures Menu cans

Hi - does anyone here use the Natures Menu cans? I've got some here and was wondering how people find them compared to Naturediet? Which do you and your dogs prefer? They seem very similar, maybe my reservation is the fact that the Natures Menu are cans and the Naturediet are trays.....

Anyway, would appreciate your views/experiences.

Thanks.

Re: Natures Menu cans

I use natures menu cans for my two poodles one of whom is very fussy, I have tried nature diet as well as natures harvest, wainwrights, forthglade and arden grange partners, none of which he liked. I only buy the two varieties with potato in namely beef and chicken (orange tin) and Chicken (green tin) as he won't eat the lamb or the salmon one. He doesn't like the natures menu pouches either fussy little monkey. I have to say the natures menu smells much nicer than the nature diet as well in my opinion anyway. I also buy arden grange mini lamb and rice kibble which I fill their kongs with. I did send for a sample of Bob and Lush food which he liked but it is very expensive to feed all the time.

Re: Natures Menu cans

As you know I feed raw but I always have a few different types of wet food in the cupboard for Kong fillings.

I normally buy Naturediet but the NM cans were on a very good offer at my local pet shop so picked up a few - I have to say I do prefer the pouches, I think the pouches smell lovely but the cans smelt like dog food (yes, I know they are, but you know what I mean! ). The dogs loved them though - but what don't they love?!

Have you, or Henry rather, tried the Bob & Lush pouches? They're very good, but only 100g packs so might be expensive to feed as a main food.

Re: Natures Menu cans

Goodness, that's alot! I did think it was odd to put it in such small sized pouches, but I'm not moaning because 1 pouch fills a Kong, so quite handy if I just want to do a Kong for one of the dogs (ahem, for Harvey when I'm trying to flippin' groom him!!).

I asked NM about the various sugars and they said they were just natural sugars found in the vegetables?

I asked them twice - on one occasion I was told it was dextrose (caramel) added to help the cooking process and on the other occasion I was told it was natural sugars in the carrots, so I wasn't sure. But they told me that any pouches with a BB date of March 2013 or later were without the Various Sugars.

Ive brought Natures Menu cans recently when fussy Nanuq wouldnt eat much else, as does it from time to time, and I just give something different for a week or two.
I found it really good food all the dogs liked it and it agreed with them.

I have used Nature Diet but it was quite a few years back, I did try it again but the dogs didnt seem quite so keen, and tbh it didnt look the same, originally you could see the meat and veg and rice even in it like a home made appearance and when I tried it again after a long time, it looked different and didnt have the home made appearance. I believed a few years back they changed plants and did have a few problems, so wether it co-incided with that and its back more like it originally was I dont know.

Did you use the cans with kibble or on their own?

So if the various sugars are from the carrots as they say, and they're removing the various sugars, then they're removing the carrots?

It was only a temporary thing to be honest when Nanuq goes on one of her diva refusing to eat what I normally feed, plus they are handy in an emergency for a quick dinner here and there. Mine get JWB Dried for breakfast every day and then raw/veg and a little rice homemade in the evening. But if I give a can instead it would be just the Natures Menu. I did try a couple of the pouches too, Nanuq wasnt struck Daisy liked them though.

Re: Natures Menu cans

they're great for fussy dogs as they're very strong smelling and a moist texture. My dog was on them for around 2 months without skipping any meals which is the longest she's lasted on a food and she looked healthy, i rotated every day with 2 flavours that didn't have grains in. So if you wanted a grain free diet then you could mix these cans in with grain free dry food

i think it's great that they're cans but are soo healthy, ingredient wise i thought they looked better then nature diet...
