Zylkene VS dorwest compound

I am trying really hard to work on Clover's general nervousness and barking - she's had both Zylkene and dorwest compound tablets in the past .Lately I've been giving her Kalmaid, which really isn't working

So I am wondering whether to try the Zylkene again. I'm not very good at understanding ingredients, does it have much more in it that might help than the dorwest compound?

Don't want to spend loads of money on Zylkene if it doesn't have much more in it than the Dorwest. Thanks all

Re: Zylkene VS dorwest compound

I dont know about zylkene, but, way back when our Cleo had little 'nervous' moments when we started showing her, I used a combination of Flower Essences. At first I used the pre-blended ones for humans, then the company I bought from brought out specific animal ones which I tried aswell. I have to admit, once you get the combination right, I've always found they worked a treat! If you wanna look into these, check out this link and have a read up. I think I used to give Cleo the confidence one and the female one together. Once tha animal ones came out, I still used the human ones buit also tried the timid essence and I always carry the emergenycy one.

Re: Zylkene VS dorwest compound

I tried Dorwest Calm Down (I think that's what it's called) for Ziggy, it made no difference. Zylkene is working, she's much better on it. Still gets clingy when she hears whistles or bangs, but snaps herself out of it much quicker, and doesn't shake. I give her a capsule every other day for general use, one a day for expected firework events.
The ingredients aren't comparable as they are using totally different approaches. Dorwest is herbal, Zylkene is amino acid based. You just have to see what works for your dog. It might be one of these, of flower essences or something else. My vet suggested something called Calmex (non-script), but I googled it with the wrong spelling so couldn't find it.

yes we have used calmex on alfie, its very new but what it does is stop the fear of thing or object before it reaches the brain and is non sedative though alfie sleeps more when hes had it.

went to the vets on thursday and he is scared stiff but he went in the exam room and let the vet examine him and even gave him a kiss too!

it has worked well for him and its all natural too.

well he is much calmer in general without anything now so i give it to go to the vets or the other week when there was alot of building going on with the neighbours but talking to the vet on thursday he said you can give them all the time as they are natural but i would make sure with your own vet first just to make sure he agrees.

they start working about an hour afterwards.

At around £10 a week I wouldn't want to be giving them all the time! Zylkene is a bit cheaper.
They are another amino-acid based product. I know tryptophan is supposed to be really good at calming but it was banned for human use in the UK after a bad batch in the US killed several people. It was still licensed for animal use so in the health food/supplements shop I used to work in, we sold it and always said it shouldn't be used by humans but what people did when they got it home was up to them. It was popular as a weight loss/appetite suppressant.

PIGDOG is on a distinguished road
Re: Zylkene VS dorwest compound

Tryptophan is a naturally occurring amino acid found in Milk, it's released from milk when heated, hence why warm milk is suggested before bed but it is destroyed if heated too much.It is also found in high'ish levels in meat.

Google 5-HTP and check out any product along those lines, given before bed helps your dog to sleep well and promotes a sense of calmness and well being throughout the following days.
