Limping...

Bella is almost 3 years and has developed a limp on and off ove the past week or so. It seems to me like a muscle/joint problem as I've checked her leg and feet and can't find any visible problems. It seems to occurs when she has been resting after a bout of exercise, she gets up and limps on her rear right leg.
This morning she ran outside and came back in holding the leg up completely.
I have been trying to rest her, she had a short walk yesterday and I'm thinking of walking her on lead today to restrict her movement.
I'm not sure if I should take her to the vet as it's quite hard to explain and not a visible injury.
Is there anything I can do or give her to help considering I don't know if it's muscle or joint.

PS Just thought I'd add that Bella doesn't seem bothered by it at all.

Re: Limping...

She obviously is bothered or she wouldn't limp or hold her leg up

How do you think she would show she's bothered, cry!!!!

If it's bad enough for her to hold her leg up then it needs checking by a vet

Re: Limping...

Is is so difficult to say what could be the matter cos as you say there is nothing visible , but that would be true of we humans if we had a sprain. If you were to take her to the vets at least it would put your mind at rest and perhaps some pain killers and anti inflammatory tablets may help. Sometimes total rest is needed. Sorry I can't be of more help, hope she gets better soon.

Re: Limping...

A MacTimoney chiropractor or Canine Sports Massage therapist would be your best bet but for either you would need a vet referral.

They charge about £25.00 per session so are not overly expensive.

What I actually meant by 'not bothered' is that she carries on with her business as if nothing is wrong.

Re: Limping...

Thanks for your input, I will see how she goes today with total rest and walk her gently tomorrow. If there's no improvement I will take her to the vet.
