freezer space and storage.

Think Ive run out of freezer space for my raw food.
Does everyone else buy weekly?, or just have enormous freezers??

I know I only have tiny dogs who dont eat alot but that can cause its own problems. I tend to buy on line as I dont drive and I bulk buy coz it works out up to 20 quid a month cheaper. Problem is that means I have alot to store, also as bags of tripe/chicken wings/necks/bones/heart/etc come in 1kg bags and it gets used slowly..
I have just filled their small freezer with minces and other things and had to use a drawer in my freezer too which I could use really. The question is how much does a small freezer cost to run? would it be worth it to buy another small freezer and really get my bulk buy moneys worth? (also only have to get about 4 deliveries a year!!LOL)

Re: freezer space and storage.

My dad (electrician) says it costs me about 8p a day to run my two large freezers that I have out in the shed

Bulkbuying even for my four, means that I only have to order every two months

Who do you order from c4m?

Re: freezer space and storage.

I use Berriewoods. They seem to be about the cheapest I could find!, although Im always looking for somewhere with equally good prices and more variety.

Re: freezer space and storage.

I'd say it's definately worth getting an extra freezer, my one's an undercounter one and before i got it i figured out it'd only cost about £1.50 a month to run (might of been less than that even!) and it means i can get 3-4 months worth of food in for my two , which like you say means i only have to do about 4 orders a year!

Re: freezer space and storage.

When we started raw feeding it gave us an excuse to look at the contents of the freezer used by the the inlaws. After throwing everything out which was past it's sell-by we ended up with it being virtually empty. Now we tend to buy in bulk for the dogs and shop instead for human food on a roughly daily basis. Then again we don't have supermarkets out of town like in the UK and are able to simply walk into the town center to buy everything.

Re: freezer space and storage.

The more space you have the more you fill it and run out!

Scott came today with my 65lbs of minces and a sack of lamb bones, I already had some pigs tails and carcasses and have ordered two 15kgs boxes of carcasses off the butch for tomorrow and even with a large chest freezer will not be able to take anything the butch may have to offer. He often saves bits for me, last time a sack full of pigs tails and yet I won't have room for any bits. You will find that you always need more space, having said that I won't need any more food for the rest of the month.

I often wonder why some people seem to spend more on food than I do. I paid Scott £36 today, the butcher will cost £10 tomorrow and I will spend around £6 on offal for the month. So that's around £52 for a month to feed all these dogs and I will still have some left over. How it it so much more expensive for other feeders?
