Smile Hi Newbee with questions

Hi, what a wealth of info.

We're new to the forum & feeding raw to our 2
dogs.
Charlie a 10 mth choc lab & Zak nearly 6 mth old ridgeback.

After feeding our last 2 on dried food and various skin complaints and the
Fact that 1 of the present dogs wasn't eating his kibble we decided to feed raw diet.
Which so far has been going well.
We started on boxing day.
Had a delivery from Scott just before xmas and filled the chest freezer up with
Chicken carcas, lamb & tripe, lamb breast, rabbit and oxtails.
Yummy.
Also some liver & heart.
Weve also Just found a friendly butcher who's giving us fresh meaty bones.
So here comes the questions....
We're working on 2•5% of expected adult weights.
Zak has trouble eating the meaty bones like lamb breast at the moment
So he has chicken carcass ,lamb n tripe, rabbit whole & chicken portions and the odd lamb shoulder ,also fish and eggs with some scraps from our table.
He looks fine people have commented on his condition (good coat etc)
Is this ok for him until he can properly chomp his bones like Charlie does?

Any advice welcome

Halifu.

Re: Hi Newbee with questions

Absolutely fine i'd say and what a lovely christmas they had changing to raw!

Whole bunnies? yummy! My fussy lot are not too keen, they don't even like scotts minced rabbit, some prey drive eh? Isn't it exciting feeding raw and deciding what to do for dinner next day? Scott delivered to me today and I said to my daughter how I love searching through the bags and seeimg what bones he's got for me, think she thinks i'm bonkers, lol! So much more entertaining than just opening a can.

Been doing this for over seven years and still love it!

Re: Hi Newbee with questions

Sounds like you're doing ok to me too My lot will eat just about anything so long as it's chopped up first Tex is ok with bigger bits but Penny and Fizz are like big babies and like it chopped into bite sized bits which is not good for me who doesn't like meat, don't get me wrong I do still do it but I won't touch it with bare hands, I have been feeding raw for a while now and I have got by without touching it so far lol, I even skin the pheasants for them without touching it once although I have to get my Dad to tke out the insides....I should have shares in latex gloves hehe
Malmum I'm just as bad, I think it's because I enjoy seeing them eat more now they eat raw because they so obviously enjoy it more, when they where on kibble they used to be so unenthusiastic when they where eating, not they get really excited as soon as I start opening the freezer bags and it melts my heart

I would say as long as he is getting some bones it should be fine for a while until he can manage bigger ones. Have you tried smashing up the bigger bones a bit with a hammer so help him get started? Just a thought

It did cross my mind to try bashing some of the bigger boney bit's up.
Was a bit worried he'd neck them without crunching?
He still gets a bit of the bigger bone when Charlie has his, he naws away at it gets the meat of
Then parades about with it hanging out the side of his mouth looking all chuffed lols
