Question Drool

Sometimes Muddy just runs with drool. It's not about food or scent and can go on for a few hours or even a couple of days.
Vet has had a look and not come up with anything.

Ideas?

Re: Drool

One of our past girls had a problem with drool every so often and our vet said it often relates to teeth or gum problems but found nothing with her there.

Also he said a small piece of wood lodged in the tooth somewhere can also cause it

Re: Drool

When Louie has been running around like a tw*t he'll return with drool - I've never thought nothing of it, but then I would if I was in an unfamiliar place - poisons, mushrooms etc can cause excessive drool. But I know Louie wouldn't eat mushrooms and he doesn't exhibit any other poisoned symptoms so it's just drool from running around.

I shouldn't worry too much, some just drool more than others, Louie does it out of excitement sometimes (smelling a bitch in heat or meeting up with friends)

Re: Drool

Stating the obvious probably but something must be causing excessive saliva production, and/or its not draining away and being swallowed quick enough.

Kobi and Nan are quite bad and my samoyed was terrible but it was always food related if we were eating.

Odd that its not completely constant though. Does it co-incide when they have had a particular food or meat protein have you noticed? I only ask because there is a food allergy test now Nutriscan available in the states and that is all done with a saliva swab looking for antibodies to certain foods to track down food allergies.

Excessive drooling can also be a sign of poisoning or toxins but cant be that as he is OK otherwise. Nanuq had that bout of drooling and slightly odd behaviour before she had her proper seizure that was put down to something ingested orginally. Is there any behaviour with it slightly un-cordinated, large pupils anything you have noticed, that maybe could be a neurological cause?
(Nans as you know turned out to be hypo thyroid in the end)

Does it co-incide if you have used any floor cleaners, air freshners, other cleaning products?

Might all be irrelevant just throwing ideas really to see if any matches.

Re: Drool

Poor you...you have my sympathy I know how you feel. Tex is a prize drooler....when he has drink he spends the next 10 minutes dripping on my knee/floor...if someone is eating he sits there drooling away....if he's sat watching Penny running round playing there he is....slime trails n all ...what makes it worse is his mouth is so big that it collects and as soon as he opens it...yup you've guessed it....droooooooooooool He sleeps on a giant bean bag and in the morning he has a wet face and there's a pool of tex drool where he's laying.
He's done it more and more as he's got older so I put it down to age and not being able to keep it in his gob as well Might I suggest a wet suit?
